Jack is Back: Making Every Minute Count

Time for another adrenaline-rush with Jack Bauer and 24.  The show, which premiered in 2001, will be enjoying it's eighth season beginning at week's end.  That's only 8 random days in Jack's world, right?

Earlier, Kiefer Sutherland discussed his role with the National Post.  He told the Canadian paper that when traveling by air people have told him they actually feel safer knowing that he's on the plane.  "I'm thinking, you must not watch the show because everybody around me gets killed," joked the star.

One thing I'll say for Jack:  He doesn't waste time!  He’s always trying to stop a plot to overthrow the government, diffuse a nuclear weapon or rescue some kidnapped dignitary.  If Jack had a theme verse it would have to be Ephesians 5:16:  These times are evil, so make every minute count (CEV).

What about your time?  What are you doing to make the most of it?  Here are three tools to assist you in making the best use of your time:  Purpose, Projects and Plans.  Let's see how Jesus acts as our example in each of these areas.

1.  Purpose - Your reason for being here.  Your destiny in life.  You have at least one.  1John 3:8 indicates that one of Jesus' purposes was to destroy the devil's work.  What is your destiny?  Why are you here?

2.  Projects - Major undertakings directly related to achieving your purpose.  Acts 10:38 tells us that Jesus "went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed of the devil..."  Jesus achieved this purpose by going from town to village, righting what the enemy had wronged.

3.  Plans - Specific, short-term goals aimed at completing those major projects, which in turn help fulfill purpose.  Jesus is precise on a short-term goal in Luke 13:32:  He replied, "Go tell that fox, 'I will drive out demons and heal people today and tomorrow, and on the third day I will reach my goal.
Reaching this smaller daily goal of driving out demons and healing was part of Jesus’ bigger Project of “doing good and healing all who were oppressed of the devil,” which was in turn part of his purpose for coming to earth, “to destroy the devil’s work.”

Getting a sense of purpose is the first step to making the best use of time.  As far as agent Bauer, maybe chasing bad guys for these past few years will mellow him this coming season.  Maybe the calming effect of growing a bit older will slow him down.  Maybe his new family responsibilities will make him more docile.  On the other hand, maybe I don't know Jack!!!
